How the forecast engine works

4cast-ai is not a black box. It builds each forecast in clear, traceable layers — starting from your own history and adjusting for trend, promotions and your team's judgement. Every number can be explained, and every change is logged.

And it gets smarter. Each cycle the engine compares the forecast it made against what actually happened and corrects its own bias — so accuracy improves the longer you use the platform.

Baseline from your history

Each forecast starts from last year's actual sales for the same month — a solid, intuitive baseline grounded entirely in your own data.

Trend adjustment

The engine adjusts the baseline for how this year is tracking against last year, so a growing or declining line is reflected automatically.

Promotional uplift

Promotions lift the forecast by the uplift learned from each product's own on-promo versus normal history — not generic industry percentages.

Manual overlays & AOP

Planners can steer the forecast at SKU, brand or category level, and gently align to the Annual Operating Plan — every steer is traceable.

Self-learning bias correction

The engine freezes each forecast, compares it to the actuals that land, and corrects its own proven over- or under-forecasting over time.

Shipments & stock cover

Shipments are derived from the sell-out forecast using each customer's Days-Forward-Cover target, with closing stock following the stock-flow identity.
